What If I Can't Be Hypnotised?

If your therapist can’t hypnotize you, it isn’t because you are the one person on the planet who cannot go under hypnosis. Everybody can, because self-hypnosis is something we as human beings do all the time.

So, assuming you have chosen a fully accredited clinical hypnotherapist who has a decent amount of experience, if you don’t go into a state of hypnosis during your session there will be one of three reasons.

ONE: You Don’t Want to Be Hypnotised

The first reason is if you don’t want to be hypnotised.

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis and your therapist uses her expertise to guide you – but you have to come to the party. I’ve never had a client in my office who is just there to prove to me that I can’t hypnotise them.

Anybody who is willing to part with their hard-earned cash to see a hypnotherapist usually wants to be hypnotised.

On the other hand, I’ve met plenty of people who haven’t quite understood what the process involves and are not ready or willing to do their part.

If this happens, I usually give them their money back and explain why I can’t work with them at this time.

This is a collaborative process that requires action on both sides. Before you make you appointment with a  hypnotherapist I highly recommend you ask yourself the question:

‘Am I really ready to make this change?

If you’re not ready to make the change then you will not allow yourself to go into a state of hypnosis. This is not to say that you will never be ready to undergo hypnosis…just that now is not the right time.

It’s worthwhile taking some time to reflect before you commit to working with a hypnotherapist.

TWO: You Don’t Trust Your Therapist

A skilled hypnotherapist is constantly watching her client to make sure their emotional journey is a smooth as possible.

There is no situation that cannot be managed, provided you are working with someone you trust.

That’s why it is so important to do plenty of research about hypnotherapy in general, and about your hypnotherapist, her credentials and her experience.

The more comfortable you are with your hypnotherapist, the more successful your experience will be.

If you’re worried I will take you some place in your mind that you don’t want to go, you can put your mind at rest; I have the skills, techniques and experience to ensure that doesn’t happen.

If you’d like to talk to me about how I may be able to help you, feel free to call me or contact me via my website.

THREE: You’re Too Stressed to Concentrate

On very rare occasions I see clients who are so agitated or stressed that they simply don’t have the resources they need to get the most out a hypnotherapy session at that point in time.

If you’re feeling highly agitated, depressed or suicidal then it’s not the right time to have hypnotherapy.

As I mentioned before I will never agree to work with the client if I don’t think we’re a good fit together, or if I feel they are not in the right frame of mind to be receptive to the therapy.

If I think I’m not the best person to hypnotize you I’ll refer you on to another source. If you’d like to know more about how I work, feel free to contact me any time.
