What Does Hypnosis Feel Like?
Hypnosis feels so ordinary that most of my first time clients tell me the same thing: ‘I don’t think I was hypnotized’.
That’s because people tend to have a false impression of what it should feel like based on stories from the media or what they’ve heard through the grapevine.
In this article I’ll clear up some of the common misconceptions about hypnotherapy and give you accurate information on the subject.
Hypnosis is a subtle state of focused awareness which leaves you feeling relaxed, refreshed and open to change. It’s a really enjoyable experience that feels very similar to daydreaming. Just like when you’re daydreaming, during hypnosis you are in control at all times.
Some Things That You Might Notice When You’re Hypnotized
You might experience hypnosis differently to the next person. But most people agree that it’s an enjoyable experience. Here are some of the most common things people notice when they’re in hypnosis:
- Rapid Eye Movement (the eyelids feel as though they are fluttering);
- Tingling in certain parts of the body (or all over);
- Feeling heavy or weighed down
One of my clients swore blind that every time she was in hypnosis she felt like the chair was tilted at a 45-degree angle! So, it really is a very individual experience.
Myths About Hypnosis
Some people mistakenly believe that you’re not supposed to hear or remember anything during your session.
This isn’t true.
Others believe you have to be unconscious – also incorrect. Another common myth is that you have to be in a deep state of hypnosis for it to be effective.
In fact, whether you are in a light state of trance (alpha) or a deep one (delta), the suggestions made by your hypnotherapist are equally as powerful.
Hypnosis can help with a range of conditions, including weight loss, quitting smoking and phobias. If you’re not sure if you would be a good candidate for hypnosis, please consult with your doctor and if you receive clearance, make contact with your hypnotherapist to see if the process is a good fit for you.
When choosing your hypnotherapist, trust is a very important factor, so don’t be afraid to get on the phone and ask lots of questions.
