Getting into shape is a fine goal for just about everyone, and it’s a sure way to promote healthy living and to improve your self-esteem, confidence, and look your very best. Well, it’s a lot easier said than done, that’s for sure.
Although there are many ways to lose weight, with some being highly effective but unappealing and others being essentially snake oil, many people forget to consider that hypnotherapy can help individuals lose weight. How so? First let’s take a look at how big of a problem weight gain is in Australia.
Is Weight a Big Problem in Australia?
In many countries, the rates obesity are rising rapidly. It’s perhaps easy to point out the problem of obesity in the United States or in the United Kingdom, for example, and think that we’re better off here in Australia. Well…Australia does have a growing problem when it comes to weight gain.
According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, the following statistics were observed in 2017-2018:
- 67% of adults in Australia were either overweight or obese (around 12.5 million adults);
- 36% of adults were overweight;
- 31% of adults were obese;
- Men rated higher than women in terms of being overweight or obese (75% for men, 60% for women);
- Men rated higher than women in terms of obesity (33% for men, 30% for women).
More recent data from 2020-2021 was not gathered due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it is believed that self-reported data far underestimate the actual rates of overweight and obesity in Australia. In other words, it is possible that the rates of overweight and obesity have increased as a result of the government-imposed lockdowns, but we lack data for this particular period.
Can Hypnotherapy Actually Help Me Lose Weight and Get in Shape?
There are two ways to answer this question, and they’re both seemingly at odds with one another. The short answer is that no, hypnotherapy does not magically make those excess kilos from the Christmas holidays evaporate. In fact, hypnotherapy does not directly lead to any physical changes to your body.
The slightly longer answer, however, is that hypnotherapy can be one of the most effective ways to lose weight. Instead of using direct surgical methods to make body fat disappear, hypnotherapy uses techniques to address the core triggers that lead to weight gain. In some instances, that might be influencing good habits such as getting exercise whilst making you aware of triggers for bad habits, such as eating ice cream when you’re feeling blue.
Hypnotherapy can be highly effective for things like quitting smoking, even if the hypnotherapist herself never actually reaches into your mouth and pulls out that cigarette. Instead, it can be more effective since it addresses the habits and emotions lying in our subconscious and ‘realigning’ your thought patterns so that you’re more aware of what’s leading you to smoke, gamble, or reach for junk food.
It should be noted, however, that hypnotherapy is not guaranteed and the results can vary from person to person. For this reason, you may wish to consult with a hypnotherapist and try out a session to see how it goes, since the potential downsides are pretty much nonexistent whilst the potential upsides can be life-changing and positive.
